What you’ll receive

This is Amber meeting Barney when she was very young…and before she had her first groom! Barney is so gentle and affectionate. You can just see it in his beautiful eyes. When Amber was very young, she learned to respect Binky (my cat) who had an anxious disposition. Binky is sadly no longer with us but Amber has remained calm and caring as a result, which makes her a great companion for nervous or cautious animals.

All sittings, walks and pop-in visits will be with Amber. I don’t do group walks or meets so you can be assured that my attention will be on your dog. Amber is very good at keeping herself entertained, as long as she is by my side. She’s house-trained, chews only the appropriate things I give her and she listens when I give her a command. When learning something new, she cocks her head to one side and looks at me inquisitively, as if to say “what would you like me to do?”. Maybe I’m just lucky that she’s very eager to please!

We will take great care of your beloved pet and try to understand how they’re feeling. It can be a worrying time for dogs when seperated from their owners, even for just an hour, so keeping your dog occupied with interactive play, fun adventures, rewards, cuddles etc will be my aim. I learned from a puppy trainer when Amber was 3 months old, how important tone of voice, soothing sounds and body language were…along with rewards for listening and obedience.

Respect and understanding of our differences is so important in life and with our animals. It can be a fun and educational experience, learning how to communicate without words or very few. I was however, surprised to discover that the average dog can learn up to 165 human words!

So whatever your dog needs, be it feeding, medication, toileting, light grooming, walking, playing, socialising or cuddles, I can provide it. I can be flexible with hours and will always try to accomodate last-minute bookings whenever I can. In fact, one of the reasons I decided to become a dog sitter was that I couldn’t find any one to look after Amber when I really needed it once, even with two days notice. Sometimes we can’t plan for events like that and we need someone to come to the rescue, to ease the stress and make sure our little furry friends are always cared for.

I will send you regular updates by text, including photos and videos if you would like that too. I know how reassuring that would be for me so I offer the same to others. Trust needs to be earned and I will do whatever I can to make you feel at ease about allowing me to care for your dog.

After every walk, I check dogs for ticks, grass seeds and abrasions. If it’s been a muddy or wet walk then I’ll make sure they are nice and clean after too. If it’s particularly cold, I’ll provide snuggly blankets to keep them warm. I’ll always offer plenty of fresh water and take your advice on whether to offer treats or their regular food.
